HAITIAN SCIENTIFIC SOCIETYThe Haitian Scientific Society (HSS) is a non-profit organization that is mostly
comprised of Haitian professionals. Since its inception in 1996, the HSS has
been convening for monthly seminars at a local university. These seminars provide a
forum, where members can present their own work and learn from the work of
invited speakers. It is not required that a seminar topic be scientific.
We are actively working to establish a
liaison with a few public schools in the greater Boston area. Our goal is to
provide tutoring and mentoring to students who are genuinely interested in math and
science. We are also exploring the possibility of working with our fellow
Haitian professionals in Haiti to help improve the schools and universities in
our country.
We believe that we can take advantage of the
Internet and other telecommunication avenues to exchange information and ideas
with other professionals to benefit Haiti, and to assist those in need closer
to home here in the United States. We exploit the fact that the Internet is a master
library that will make information accessible to the most remote areas of our
common planet.
The current members of the HSS hold doctoral,
graduate and undergraduate degrees in various fields of engineering,
mathematics and computer science. They work for companies such as Xerox,
Epsilon, Raytheon Company, ASIC Technology Corporation, Boston Edison, United
Parcel Service and North American Industry Incorporated. Other members are
active research university professors.
