Faculty and Staff
Faculty and StaffThe department has ten tenured or tenure-track faculty, and several adjunct faculty. Members of the department are accomplished or aspiring scholars, passionate about teaching and actively pursuing research programs (in fields such as representation theory, combinatorics, differential geometry, applied mathematics, and mathematics education), and are involved in many professional activities at local, regional, or national level. Professor Maura Mast has been elected chair of SIGMAA-QL, the special interest group of the Mathematical Association of America in Quantitative Literacy and continued to serve as Clerk of the Association for Women in Mathematics. She is also a mentor/consultant for Project NExT. Several members are National Project NExT fellows: Karen Ricciardi (forest dot), Steven Jackson and Catalin Zara (sky dots). Professor Alfred Noël is actively involved in the Haitian Scientific Society where, as a founding member, he organizes a monthly Seminar, mostly on science and technology. Since 2000, Professor Ethan Bolker works with teachers and students at several grade-levels at the J.P. Manning Elementary School in Jamaica Plain, helping with the transition to a new mathematics curriculum and running the Mathematics Club for interested students. Professor Hans Herdastudies rock fracture roughness and attitude distributions. He works with Herbert Einstein at M.I.T. and with Yuzo Ohnishi at Kyoto University, Japan.
