Small unitary representations and isolatedness of the minimal representation

Abstract: We introduce a new notion of rank for an (infinite dimensional) unitary representation of a Lie group based on Kirillov's philosophy of orbits. The theory has a number of applications; in particular we show that for several exceptional groups, minimal representations (which, in a sense, are the smallest representations after the trivial representation) are isolated in the unitary dual.

The presentations cover a large variety of topics and are intended for a general math audience. The seminar is organized by Prof. Alfred Noël and we usually meet Monday afternoons, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
