Mathematics Seminar Series - Spring 2007
Monday,
May 7
2:30pm-3:55pm, Science 2-065 Gregory LoftusUMass BostonUndergraduate Student Introduction to Bezier Curves
Abstract:
Bezier curves are parametric curves developed in the early 1960's
for use in CAD/CAM operations. Today Bezier curves have a wide range of
applications, including graphic design and music synthesis. The speaker will
give the motivations for Bezier curves through a brief history of numerical
analysis and provide an overview of various applications.
Remark: On Saturday, April 21, four UMass students spoke at a regional mathematics conference at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. By popular demand, they will reprise their presentations in our seminar. The presentations cover a large variety of topics and are intended for a general math audience. The seminar is organized by Prof. Alfred Noël and we usually meet Monday afternoons, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
