This is the first in the sequence of calculus courses for scientists and mathematicians. It covers the basic concepts of differentiation and integration of real algebraic or trigonometric functions of one variable. A good background in basic mathematics is required.

 

Material to be covered:

 

1.4, 1.5, 2.1-2.9, 3.1-3.5, 3.7, 3.9, 4.1-4.5, 5.1, 5.2, 6.1-6.4 and parts of chapter 7

 

 

Practice problems and exercises will be assigned at the end of each lecture. The student is expected to read the appropriate sections and to do all assigned exercises. The student will find this course very difficult if he or she neglects the homework assignments.

 

Exams: 

 

There will be four  exams, all in class: 6/8, 6/22, 6/29, 7/13  (01A)               

 

Grading Procedure:

 

Each exam is worth 25% of your final grade. THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP EXAMS.
