Student Comments

  • Calculus II, Spring 2005 - Penn State Altoona
    • Official student evaluations: Section 5 and Section 6, on a scale from 1 (poor) to 7 (excellent)
  • Calculus I, Fall 2004 - Penn State Altoona
    • Official student evaluations: Section 1 and Section 2, on a scale from 1 (poor) to 7 (excellent)
  • Mathematics for Economists, Summer 2003 - Yale
    • Professor Zara is a fabulous dedicated professor. His presentations were inspiring and amazing.
    • Webwork is an excellent idea. Professor Zara managed it very well.
    • I liked the webwork and online forum.
  • Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory, Spring 2002 - Yale
    • Everything always built upon what we had previously been studying, and there was never a time when we were shown something without explicitly seeing the motivation for its existence.
    • I like how students must incorporate and use knowledge from beginning of lecture in answering questions posed towards the end. This demands students remain attentive and active and helps tie together all the concepts.
    • Each problem set was not merely an academic challenge but also a learning experience.
  • Calculus II, Summer 2001 - Yale
    • I liked the daily quizzes; keeps you on top of your work
  • Introduction to Functions of Several Variables, Spring 2001 - Yale
    • I really liked the professor - he explained the concepts clearly and thoroughly, always willing to spend extra time on the more difficult issues and always available for extra help.
    • It's strength are that it shows how different mathematical concepts can be applied to real world situations.
    • Moreover, the themes covered are useful, and with the enthusiasm of the professor, even the problem sets were mostly fun to solve.
    • Professor Zara kept the mood light while still teaching a good deal of information.
    • He has a direct style and is not afraid to correct or to be corrected, and he was able to present a number of different approaches to each unit, especially when questions were asked.
  • Calculus II, Fall 2000 - Yale
    • Lectures were very well-organized and conducted with considerable attention to individual student's needs.
    • He went at a solid pace and encouraged questions and interaction.
  • Interphase - Calculus, Summer 1999 - MIT
    • He provokes us to think.
  • Multivariable Calculus, January 1999 - MIT
    • Effective in organizing the material and explaining.
  • Multivariable Calculus, January 1999 - MIT
    • He did not only emphasize or reinforce the understanding of the general concepts, but also prepared very relevant practice questions.
  • Multivariable Calculus, Fall 1998 - MIT
    • He makes sure we understand the material before moving on.
    • We always have all the help we need.
  • Interphase-Calculus, Summer1998 -MIT
    • This class is very fun and challenging at the same time.
  • Mathematics Lecture Series 1998, January 1998 - MIT
    • The recitations were great and very informative, you've clearly answered the questions and gave valuable comments.
