Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics

• MATH 280 - Introduction to Proofs has been re-numbered MATH 314 - Introduction to Proofs;
• MATH 310 - Applied Ordinary Differential Equations has been re-numbered MATH 270 - Applied Ordinary Differential Equations.

Required Courses:

Electives:
Besides the required courses, a student must take three other Mathematics courses, numbered 300 or higher.

Notes:

• MATH 140 - Calculus I may be replaced by MATH 145 - Calculus I for Life and Environmental Sciences.
• With the permission of the Department, one of the electives may be replaced by a cognate course.
• Prospective high school teachers should consider taking MATH 370 - History of Mathematics, MATH 458 - Theory of Numbers, and MATH 460 - Topics in Geometry.

Science Courses:
For the Bachelor of Science degree, in addition to the above requirements, a student must take PHYSIC 114 - Fundamentals of Physics II, three aditional science courses, and a lab. Each course must be part of the requirements for the major in the department offering the course.

Further Rules and Requirements:

• A minimum of a 2.0 GPA (a C average) in the major is required for graduation. Only courses taken at UMass Boston are included in computing the average.
• No requirement may be taken pass/fail.
• At least 4 (four) Mathematics courses numbered 300 or higher must be taken at UMass Boston.
