The paintings shown here are for sale. Proceeds go to the progressive Haitian teachers union UNNOH, to support the campaign for free universal education in Haiti. This campaign has been joined by over 28 groups, including unions and progressive organizations. The Haitian constitution requires the Haitian government to provide such education. But the vast majority of students in school, attend private schools. Since the unemployment rate in Haiti is about 80%, and the usual wage is US$2.00 per DAY, families most often cannot afford to send their children to private schools. President Martely has said he would try to move in the diretion of universal education, but has not done so. The paintings have been donated by the artists, and 100% of the proceeds of the sale of these paintings will be delivered by hand to the UNNOH union.
