3:00pm - 4:00pm, in Science 2-065 Matthew LehmanRhythm Partitions and Fibonacci Numbers (Part 2): Nomenclature, Counting and Classifying Modalities and Ordering Rhythms
Abstract:
After a brief review, we'll develop a syntax and vocabulary where we can represent and manipulate rhythms. We'll define key concepts such as a "primordial" rhythm and a rhythm's "modality", which we'll count and classify. Finally, we'll look at two approaches for ordering rhythms, which will include several qualitative and quantitative schemes.
This talk is accessible to anyone with an interest in math. The review should be sufficient for anyone who didn't attend the prior talk.
