Conifold transitions in mirror symmetry

Abstract: Conifold transitions form an important class of geometric surgeries, given by either smoothing or resolving certain singularities. Mirror symmetry is a duality originating in physics that relates two different areas of geometry. David Morrison conjectured that mirror symmetry should interchange the two sides of a conifold transition. In this talk I will explain what is known for such transitions and what we expect.
