Abstract:
I will start with a basic introduction of Hamiltonian $S^1$-manifolds; these are symplectic manifolds with circular symmetry. I will then present a classifying technique for these manifolds that was originally developed in my thesis (arxiv: math.SG/0502.364). This is a very naive but quite useful method that has been used recently by McDuff to show uniqueness of symplectic manifolds in very special circumstances (arXiv:0808.3549). Several of the results are revised from the original preprint.
