3:00pm - 4:00pm, in Science 2-065 Michael ShapiroTufts UniversityAn elementary and idiosyncratic introduction to geometric group theory
Abstract:
When a group acts on a nice metric space the geometry of that space can instruct us about the group. Better yet, every finitely generated group will provide its own metric space to act on. This raises the question of what it means for that space to be nice.
